Writing something ‘good enough’ is something I don’t think I’m capable of doing.

I’m writing a romantasy novella as an exercise to expand my range and force myself to write something I’m unused to, but every time I work on the redraft, I cannot see it being published how it is. Every time I type up the next chapter I’m just thinking about how I can change the story ‘just slightly’ to make it work the way I want it to.

Writing a book is hard.

Am I so special that anyone will care about, let alone read, my memoir? Have I enough of a story to tell? My agent obviously thinks so or else she wouldn’t have signed me up.

But still, 85 000 words and I’m struggling, doubting, muttering.

Mostly, I sigh a lot, run a hand through thinning hair and look out of the window. A lot.

It’s a good view.
