Tomorrow, I will be having brain surgery to address Chiari malformation that has been causing many troublesome symptoms for the past 2 1/2 years.

It took a long time to figure out the diagnosis and I’m very grateful to have a highly specialized neurosurgeon performing the operation.

The recovery is estimated to be 3-6 months because my brain hasn’t had adequate cerebrospinal fluid for so long that it will take a long time to heal. I’m not sure when I will be able to write again but will try to pop in when I’m well enough.

Hello, Joanne,
Thank you for writing that. It lifted me completely out of my own internal witterings to wish, wholeheartedly, that you will be all right. Of course none of us can imagine how it must feel to be in your place, but it sounds both terrifying and also joyful, how wonderful to live in a time and place where these things are possible, and how utterly horrifying to have to face them.
Good luck with it, may all of the Gods be at your side. May the surgeon have a steady hand and a sharp eye, and may you rest and recover peaceably and contentedly.
All of our good wishes are with you. X
