I saw a young scholar in my time, his mind cluttered with names and rules. He filled every hour with new words, yet he could not find the way home. I told him that the vessel must be empty to hold water. To know the Tao is not to gather more facts, but to strip away the noise until only the silence remains.

Tonight, put down your books and stop trying to fix what you see. Look at the dust settling in the corner without moving it. Do less than you planned, so that you may do more without effort. The river does not shout as it flows over stones; it simply goes. Ask yourself if your hands are busy doing or merely pretending to act. Let go of the need to be clever, and watch how things arrange themselves when you stop holding them back.
