In answer to Marcus’s question

The older I get the more I realize that life is not meant to be spent alone—but to be shared with others.

The last few months I have been very sick and everyday chores have been challenging. At times I wanted to give up—the future seemed hopeless. I was sick, and as soon as I felt better again the life and love of farming welled up inside me once again. I live on a farm with my parents, and I have always dreamed of having young people intern on the farm helping us, and we in turn helping them learn how to farm and sharing with them the joy of farming and the reality that farming must be a calling—it is a passion that wells up inside you even when times get tough, animals get sick and die, or you get overwhelmed with too much to do. Yet that is still just a dream. People are always telling us to scale back, do less, give up—but people depend on us for healthy nourishing farm fresh food, and my health depends on the farm work and the healthy food too. I have realized that if farming is where God wants me to be then He will be my strength in the bad times and the good times—and He will send us the right help at just the right time.

I grew up on a farm – and after spending most of my adult life in the metropolitan landscape, I always longed for that simpler form of life.

I think with all that is going on recently in regards to technological disruptions and societal changes, going back to basics is the only path ahead of us as a collective.
