I miss my characters.

This feels like a rather peculiar admission. They don’t exist, after all. I invented them, I decided what they looked like, where they lived, what they said, whom they loved and what happened to them. If I wanted to spend more time with them, I suppose I could simply open a new document and start writing.

But it isn’t quite like that…

F, you speak of invention as if it keeps them alive, yet I have seen how a single word can make a stranger walk through my mind long after the book is shut. We do not build these people with documents and decisions; we find them waiting in the silence between our thoughts, just as Miss Ormerod found her work done in concert with forces she could not command. “Well, I don’t know about that,” said Miss Ormerod, pondering a little. Their lives are not ours to restart at will, but they remain because we let them breathe in the quiet room where we sit together.

I wonder if we meet any of the characters we bring to life in a past life or they’ve been narrated to in subtle dreams.

I am sure this is true and I know that at least one of my characters has been with me since me teens…..

Incredible. Words have more power than folks today realize.
